€1bn, 500MW Green Hydrogen Facility Planned in Portugal Sines Port

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), along with Madoqua Renewables and Power2X, has unveiled plans to construct a cutting-edge green hydrogen facility at the bustling Portuguese port of Sines by 2025. With an estimated cost of €1 billion, the project aims to generate 500MW of renewable energy and become a major player in the production of green hydrogen. Anticipated annual output includes 50,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 500,000 metric tons of green ammonia. Notably, this venture marks CIP’s second ambitious green hydrogen project in the region.

Portugal and Spain, with their abundance of solar irradiation and robust wind resources, enjoy a competitive advantage in green hydrogen production. Their favourable conditions enable more cost-effective manufacturing compared to other European counterparts.
