Sky Achieves 100% Renewable Electricity Goal and Powers Global Operations Sustainably

Broadcaster Sky has successfully achieved its target of sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2020, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability. With this accomplishment, Sky has become fully powered by renewables across its entire operations, including offices, retail stores, and journalism hubs worldwide. The achievement is aligned with Sky's broader ambition to reach net zero emissions by 2030 and demonstrates the company's strong commitment to a sustainable future.

Transitioning to Renewable Energy:

Sky's transition to 100% renewable electricity has been realized through a combination of on-site technology installations and the purchase of certified renewable electricity tariffs. In regions where Sky does not have control over the electricity tariff, the company has utilized Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) to ensure the renewable sourcing of its energy. This comprehensive integration of renewables has resulted in a remarkable 22.7% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, compared to a baseline set in 2018.

RE100 Recognition and Collaboration:

Sky's achievement has been recognized by RE100, a global initiative bringing together influential businesses committed to 100% renewable electricity. As one of the pioneering members of RE100, Sky's successful attainment of its renewable electricity goal highlights the company's dedication to driving sustainable change. Sam Kimmins, the head of RE100, congratulated Sky on its accomplishment and expressed enthusiasm for further collaboration with the company and other RE100 peers to accelerate the transition towards zero-carbon grids.

Sky's commitment to sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2020 and achieving this goal demonstrates the company's leadership and determination in driving sustainable practices. By fully transitioning to renewables, Sky has reduced its environmental impact and made significant progress in its journey towards net zero emissions by 2030. As a prominent global broadcaster, Sky sets a positive example for other businesses and industries, showcasing the feasibility and benefits of transitioning to renewable energy sources. With its commitment to sustainability, Sky continues to pave the way for a greener future in the media and entertainment sector.
