Porsche is calling on its almost 1300 suppliers to use only renewable energy in the manufacturing of components for its vehicles. Currently, the sports car manufacturer’s supply chain contributes about 20% to its total greenhouse gas emissions. From potentially as early as 2025, at least 50% of new Porsche vehicles sold will include an electric drive. By 2030, the target is 80%. The carmaker had already released plans to invest more than €1bn in decarbonisation measures over the next 10 years. In its press release, Porsche stated that the new policy (starting from July 2021) would apply to any and all contracts related to manufacturing inputs for its new vehicle projects. Any suppliers unwilling to switch to certified green energy would no longer be considered for contracted supply.
