Why COP26 matters and how Redshaw Advisors is involved

Pricing Carbon for a Global Transition to Net Zero: Redshaw Advisors' Side Event at COP26"

The previous COP was widely seen as a failure, with no decisions made and important discussions postponed to subsequent meetings, including last year's cancelled gathering. Despite a temporary dip in global activity in 2020 due to the pandemic, data from the International Energy Agency and Climate Transparency Report indicates that we are now on a higher emissions trajectory than before the pandemic. As a result, this year's COP26 must achieve more than ever before.

In association with six other organizations, Redshaw Advisors is hosting a side session at COP26 titled "Pricing Carbon to Support a Transition to Net Zero." Taking place on November 4th at 1 PM GMT, the session will be available online. The event will delve into the crucial aspects of net-zero goals and the role of carbon pricing policies and measures, featuring case studies from China, Poland, and Portugal to explore each government's approach to achieving net-zero targets. The session will also address the significance of Article 6 and the importance of ensuring transparency and credibility in the global voluntary market.

Renowned experts including Vicky Pollard from the EU Commission, Andrei Macru from ERCST, Yan Qin from Refinitiv, Robert Jeszke from KOBIZE/CAKE, and Elizabeth Sturcken from the Environmental Defence Fund will be part of the discussion on how carbon pricing can contribute to global net-zero goals. The session will cover various topics, including the context of net zero, the role of carbon pricing as a tool for achieving net zero, the urgency of addressing Article 6, and the need for global participation.

Redshaw Advisors has been advocating a business approach to climate change mitigation for many years, reflecting the company's belief in taking prompt action and responsibility. They possess extensive knowledge of designing functional emissions trading systems that incentivize companies to participate. The consultancy and offsetting services provided by Redshaw Advisors are part of the multifaceted solution required, with every industry needing to contribute with meaningful and specific actions.

The increased accessibility to COP, both online and in-person, acknowledges that the issues discussed at the conference are global in nature and affect everyone. The side event organized by Redshaw Advisors demonstrates the potential of technology to democratize participation in institutional events, highlighting that remote platforms can facilitate broader engagement and inclusion.
