New Gresham House forestry fund to pay investors in carbon credits

Gresham House has launched a UK forestry strategy, which will pay investor distributions in verified carbon credits. Investors will have the option to either retain or sell these credits. Those who opt for the former can use the credits to address emissions in their portfolio – referred to as ‘insetting’. Investors who opt for the latter could realise returns on any upside to carbon credit pricing. The fund aims to deliver sustainable capital growth through new productive woodland creation with returns generated through the sale of timber plus capital appreciation on land and trees from existing forests. In tandem this more than 10k hectares of new productive woodland would enable the sequestration of carbon plus the generation of carbon credits. Gresham House now manages roughly 140k hectares, worth more than £1.8bn.
