Finland’s issuance of guarantees of origin for electricity (GOs) will be suspended in July due to legislative reform delays.
The reformed EU Renewable Energy Directive (REDII) on GOs will add renewable heat and cooling, waste heat, renewable gases and nuclear power to the system for granting GOs. Finextra, the issuing body in Finland, will continue to issue GOs in July for energy generated in June under its existing terms and conditions. Delay will, therefore, relate to issuances where terms and conditions need to be updated post reform consultation.
Parliamentary debate is currently underway but it is not yet clear when legislation will pass and thus when Finextra can secure the required approval from the Energy Authority to change its terms and conditions.
Finland GOs figures: In 2020, 31.8 TWh of GOs were issued (up 12% on 2019). 2020 cancellations were 25.8 TWh (broadly flat vs 25.2 TWh in 2019).
