Lima Pumps Out More Hot Air
The Paris summit planned for 2015, where world leaders will try to thrash out the successor to the Kyoto protocol, may well be too little too late according to Irwin Stelzer. He cites three valid reasons the summit won’t bear fruit (or the right kind of fruit):
- Poor countries see green policies as impediments to growth
- Many countries do not have the means to even measure their emissions
- President Barack Obama insists that nations set non-binding goals
In addition he says that according to the Economist the measures considered by individual countries, including emissions trading, won’t add up to the carbon reduction required. Read the full Sunday Times article here.
